Sin Poder No Hay Paraíso

Sin Poder No Hay Paraíso •

This exhibition showcases 12 NYC image-makers, 10 of whom are NYC natives, highlighting their unique identities, homes, and communities in the city.

During a time when safety and security are under threat, their visual stories are printed on t-shirts to create a tactile installation speaking to bodily presence and what we are challenged to lose. These stories of love, resilience, and resistance inspire courage to continue showing up for ourselves and our city.⁣

⁣Alongside the shirts, 4x6" prints of NYC families and friends with captions on the back invite viewers to interact with this live archive representing the breathing memories of those whose history is deeply intertwined with the rich identity of NYC.⁣

The shirts are on sale for $120 USD.
Proceeds from this exhibition support the participating artists and three NYC-based mutual aid organizations, Bushwick Ayuda MutuaMil Mundos en Común, and Make the Road New York, providing legal aid, resources, and community support to immigrants and working families.

Bronx, New York City, 2000

Taken at the 10th iteration of Black Girls Have Tea Parties Too, an annual event founded and organized by Harlem-born Kelly Snider. There is a tangible feeling of joy, excitement, and togetherness that can be felt at Snider’s events, and hopefully, through these images as well. Many of the girls have formed friendships they will keep for life, a true testament
to the community Snider has cultivated.
